The current position

This site runs Google Analytics 4, and it is the only thing here that sets cookies. There are no advertising pixels, no session cookies and no other third-party tags.

Analytics tells us which pages get read and which get abandoned. We use it to decide what to write next, not to identify you and not to advertise to you.

The cookies it sets are _ga and _ga_WZEB0KZ7VC. They hold a randomly generated identifier that lets Google Analytics tell a returning browser from a new one. They expire after two years, and you can delete them at any time through your browser.

Google is a processor here, and it is a US company. Data collected by Analytics is processed on Google's infrastructure under its own terms.

Turning it off takes one click, at the bottom of this page. The setting is stored in your browser, so it applies to this browser on this device.

Local storage

Separate from cookies: a handful of entries the site keeps in your own browser and never sends to us. Each appears only after you do something that asks for it.

• sc-theme — the light or dark palette you picked with the switch in the header, so the site does not flip back on your next visit.
• sc-lang-hint — set only if the site offered you its version in your language and you dismissed that offer, so you are not asked twice.
• sc-optin — set if you either asked for the playbook or closed the invitation to. It stops the invitation reappearing: for good if you signed up, for thirty days if you closed it. Your address is not stored here.
• sc-analytics-notice — remembers that you have seen the notice at the bottom of the page, so it appears once.
• sc-analytics — set to off if you turn analytics off below. It is what keeps it off.

None of these are cookies and none are sent with requests: the site's own script reads them in your browser. Clearing your browser storage removes them all.

Filters on the database page live in the address itself (?category=cloud), so a filtered view can be sent as a link. That stores nothing on your device beyond the ordinary server log entry described in the Privacy Policy.

Embedded third-party content

We do not embed third-party fonts, videos, maps, chat widgets or social buttons, so no third party can set a cookie through this site. Links to provider websites are ordinary links: once you follow one, that provider's own cookie policy applies, not ours.

If we add anything else that stores data on your device, we will describe it here — the specific file, what it is for and how long it lasts — before it goes live.
